The Cause: Supporting Cancer Care in Your Community

One in two. That’s how many Ontarians will develop cancer in their lifetime.

Every year, more than 55,000 residents of Mississauga, Peel Region and west Toronto turn to Trillium Health Partners (THP) for rapid cancer diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and psychosocial oncology and supportive care. Home to Ontario’s largest and fastest growing regional cancer program, THP offers cancer services across three sites — Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre — and through our community partners.

Last year alone, THP saw over 216,000 oncology patient visits with more than 32,000 screening visits and a 7 per cent increase in clinic visits for radiation. THP was able to cut wait times for high priority cancer surgery by 14 per cent, and improve wait times for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a key tool in cancer diagnosis, by 48 per cent. None of this would be possible without community support.

Over the last five years, THP has seen a 20 per cent increase in systemic cancer treatments, with radiation treatments in particular spiking 93 per cent over the last decade, almost three times the provincial average. No other Ontario cancer centre has experienced such high, year-over-year growth. What’s more, the need for cancer care will continue to climb as our population grows and ages.

By purchasing a t-shirt or making a donation to the Mississauga Fire’s Pink Truck Tour fundraising campaign, you enable us to continue transforming cancer care in our community.

Your generous support means we can continue providing patients access to comprehensive cancer care, close to home, at every stage of their health care journey – today and for generations to come.

It’s never been easier – or more stylish – to make a difference in the lives of so many people affected by cancer. Join Mississauga’s firefighters to help us create a new kind of cancer care for a healthier community.
